Ian McCall looks forward to UFC Flyweight belt

UFC Flyweight contender Ian McCall will be facing rival Demetrious Johnson in a rematch stemming from their draw earlier this year at UFC on FX 3. The fight was wrought with controversy when a judging error declared he bout a draw the next day, prompting a June 8th rematch. McCall recently spoke about the mistakes he made and how he will correct them this weekend:

“We have a lot of motivation because I felt I won the fight, he felt he won the fight, and we had all the drama behind it. We put on a great fight the last time and it has it’s ups and downs I guess. The biggest gaping hole in my performance was my stand-up. I’m a much better kickboxer than I showed. I mean, just watch my earlier fights, I’ve never been outstruck and I was, on the feet at least. It wasn’t bad, but I didn’t do the things I should. I just have to rough him up. I need to not chase him around, just get a hold of him, and just really beat the crap out of him.” via MMAWeekly.com

With that said, McCall has a gameplan in place and will look to move past this rivalry. His sights are obviously set on the newly minted UFC Flyweight title. Friday’s winner will face Joseph Benavidez for the 125 lb belt. McCall summed it up briefly:

“I just want this to be over with and done. This time I want to put a stamp on it, I want to finish the fight and really just get it over with so I can go on and get my title.”

McCall appears to have a razor-sharp focus on his ultimate goal, and a high level of confidence in facing Demetrious Johnson again. He has re-evaluated his game, admitted his mistakes, and set upon improving them. The rematch should be a battle of two highly motivated fighters; can each combatant remained focused on the task at hand? Will Uncle Creepy grasp the Flyweight belt soon?
