Holly Holm Still Has Ronda Rousey In Her Sights
Following her win over Marion Reneau by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 71, Holly Holm is still facing those expectations of a fight with UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
Before she joined the UFC, media and fans were talking about a possible fight between the two. Now that she’s in the UFC, Holm is still expected to live up to those expectations.
Even with a lackluster performance at Wednesday’s event, Holm still wants and expects to fight Rousey down the road.
“She’s the one with the belt, so I like that people put me in reference with that,” Holm told MMA Junkie. “That’s the ultimate goal. You’re in this sport, that’s what you want. Ronda Rousey has paved the way for a lot of us. I have a lot of respect for her. I don’t look at it and think how I want to map out my future fights. My goal is to be there, otherwise I probably shouldn’t be doing this at all.”
Holm is currently undefeated and in her last six bouts, she’s has finished three of them by a finish stoppage.
Unlike her UFC debut back at UFC 184, nerves did not affect her as much they did in this fight against Renau.
“I did feel a little more relaxed,” she said. “My goal is to keep improving. If I had to pick, I’m glad my first performance wasn’t the best fight of my career.”
There was no mention after UFC Fight Night 71 about when her next fight would be, but it will no doubt not be against Ronda Rousey.
