Highlights: Jingnan Xiong Batters Angela Lee With Brutal Assault

ONE strawweight champion Jingnan Xiong put on a show defending her title with a brutal fifth-round stoppage over Angela Lee in the co-main event of today’s (Sun., March 31, 2019) ONE Championship: A New Era from Ryōgoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.

The awaited fight, where atomweight champ Lee attempted to become ONE’s first female two-division champion, went down like most thought. Xiong controlled the striking exchanges while Lee remained in control in the wrestling and grappling exchanges. In the end, it was ultimately Xiong who emerged victoriously.

However, it was not without much adversity. In the fourth round, Lee used her vaunted takedowns to ground Xiong and lock on a reverse triangle. From there, she transitioned to an armbar and it was locked on tight in multiple spots. The strawweight champ persevered through it:

But it soon seemed like it was all part of the gameplan for Xiong. In the last round, she came out blazing on a gassed Lee. Realizing ‘Unstoppable’ maay have burnt herself out going for the finish in the previous round, Xiong kept going to the body with vicious punches and kicks.
