Henderson vs. Machida at UFC 156 in doubt
Last week, Dan Henderson told MMA Uncensored Live that he was preparing to face Lyoto Machida at UFC 156 in Las Vegas on February 2nd. This week, the future of that fight is shrouded in doubt. On FUEL TV’s UFC Tonight, it was reported that the UFC isn’t too comfortable setting that fight in stone due to Henderson’s knee injury that kept him out of UFC 151.
The fight appeared to be a #1 contender fight as Henderson was slated to face Jon Jones at UFC 151 before the knee injury forced him out. Meanwhile, Machida’s knockout of Ryan Bader put him a step closer to a rematch. With Jones recovering from an injury and coaching opposite his April 27 opponent, Chael Sonnen, the 205 division has a chance to clear up it’s murky title picture. However, with the UFC concerned that Henderson’s knee won’t be 100% healthy, the last thing they want to do is book a slot for a fight that could end up being cancelled.
It is not yet known whether the UFC will move the fight to a later date or if it will remain on the February Super Bowl Weekend card but we can expect an answer soon.
