Hearings For Silva And Diaz Set For August 13, 2015
It seems as if after months and months of speculation, and rescheduling, former long-time middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva, and former welterweight title challenger Nick Diaz will finally have their hearings with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).
MMAJunkie has confirmed the news, stating that the hearings will be held on August 13, 2015.
The two met back in January in the main event of UFC 183, which happened to be Silva’s highly-anticipated return from the gruesome leg injury he suffered in his second bout against current champion Chris Weidman at UFC 168.
It turned out to be a decent fight that Silva ended up winning via unanimous decision, but it was the controversy following it that has made headlines over the past months.
The mixed martial arts (MMA) world was stunned when shocking news broke that “The Spider” had felt both pre, and post-fight drug tests for performance-enhancing-drugs (PEDs), while less shocking news broke that Diaz had once again popped for marijuana.
Both fighters are facing fines, and suspensions, and as far as why it’s taken so long for the hearings, NSAC executive director Bob Bennett said that that will be discussed on August 13th:
“Not at this point and time,” he told MMAjunkie on Monday. “It will be discussed on the 13th.”
However, that is not the whole situation, as the plot thickened when it was revealed that the controversial failures, were actually surrounded with even more controversy. Both fighters’ drug tests have actually proved to have different results in different laboratories, putting the whole situation under scrutiny.
Diaz had supposedly failed one test, but passed two others, and Silva’s tests prove to be inconsistent as well. How could that be?
Hopefully we will get some answers next week and at that time we will finally be aware of each fighters’ future in MMA.
