Glaico Franca Chokes Out Fernando Bruno To Win TUF: Brazil 4 Lightweight Tournament

The lightweight tournament final for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): Brazil 4 was held at UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Fighting to be declared the lightweight TUF: Brazil 4 champion were Fernando Bruno (15-3) and Glaico Franca (13-3).

They traded leg kicks to get round one started. Bruno connected with a right hand upstairs. Franca was able to land a knee to the body. The two scrambled on the ground and Bruno ducked under and went for a single leg takedown. He was able to get Franca on the ground, but not for long.

Franca reversed the position and was able to take Bruno down. Franca attempted to take the back of Bruno, but he stood back up with his back pressed against the cage. Referee Herb Dean warned Bruno about grabbing the fence. Round one concluded with Franca getting control of his opponent’s back.

Round two was underway and Franca landed some leg kicks and threw a kick up high. They engaged in the clinch with Bruno maintaining control. That didn’t last long as the seemingly stronger Franca muscled his way to a brief takedown. Bruno ended up on top of Franca off a technical error. Franca landed some elbows off his back. Franca got back up and pressured his opponent with strikes. He gained control of Bruno’s back and went hunting for a rear-naked choke. Bruno fought it off until the end of the round.

Franca brought Bruno down in the third round and looked for back control. Bruno got up and Franca accidentally kneed him in the groin. The action resumed quickly and Franca missed a head kick. Franca dragged Bruno down to the mat. Franca once again went for the rear naked choke, but this time he forced a tap.
