Gilbert Melendez On UFC Chicago Loss: Maybe I’m Not Best In World Anymore
Former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez (22-6) was on top of the world before joining the UFC. Melendez is 1-4 while in the UFC and dropping his latest bout to Edison Barboza at UFC on FOX 20 by unanimous decision in the co-main event. Following the defeat, Melendez took to Instagram to post a photo of his team and gave some encouraging words. He posted this:
“Well that dude was tough … I had a blast. I love u @elninotrainingcenter for always standing by me. And thanks to my familia for always supporting me. Leylakay and @kerimelendez415 are my heart. Thanks to all my fans. Maybe I’m not the best in the world but I’m always down to Skrap. UFC on FOX 20 took place on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The prelims aired on UFC Fight Pass at 4PM/3PM ETPT and FOX Sports 1 at 6PM/3PM ETPT while the main card aired on FOX at 8PM/5PM ETPT.
Melendez is currently on a three-fight losing streak and 3-3 in his last six bouts. There’s no word yet on who or when he’ll fight next, but it could be against a fighter that is outside the top ten in the official UFC rankings – something that he hasn’t been accustomed to for quite some time.
