Gegard Mousasi: I’m looking for move to the UFC, bout with Shogun Rua
Former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi has been out of action for some time now. His absence has essentially cooled any and all hype concerning the Armenian kickboxer, who was once considered one of the next big things in MMA. Well versed in striking and submission but derided for his inability to defend against top-level wrestling, Mousasi has recently spoken up to detail what his next career move might be. Speaking in an interview with FCFighter.com, Mousasi makles some bold claims about coming over to the world’s largest MMA promotion:
“If everything goes well, I will be headed to the UFC. They will announce it. UFC is the biggest organization, so everyone’s goal is to be in the UFC. The best thing is for me to go to the UFC as soon as possible. The UFC is the biggest and, if you can make your name there, that is the goal.”
Some very broad speculation about his move to the UFC, but supposedly more details are soon to come. When asked about whom he would like to fight once in the UFC, Mousasi looked for a bout with the always entertaining Shogun Rua, and was very confident in his abilities:
“That would be a good fight. That would be an exciting fight. He’s the kind of guy who likes to fight. I like to fight guys like him who come to fight instead of fight(ing) to win. I am 100 percent positive about my abilities to beat anybody. I don’t doubt myself I just have to have my priorities right. I know I can beat anybody.”
Mousasi could provide an instant jolt to any UFC card he found himself on with his excellent and exciting kickboxing. His injuries appear to have healed as he expects to find himself in training camp sooner than later. Will Gegard Mousasi enjoy a resurgence of success within the ranks of the UFC?
