Frankie Edgar: I F*cking Doubt I’ll Get Title Shot
Frankie Edgar, who is coming off a win over Chad Mendes by first round knockout at TUF 22 Finale, was told that he would be fighting Conor McGregor for the featherweight title next. However, that is not happening right away. Instead, McGregor will reportedly be challenging Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title in the main event of UFC 197.
According to Edgar, he’s been talking to UFC President Dana White and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta about a title shot. Edgar claims that they’re not listening to him when he brings up the fact that he deserves a title shot. Edgar went as far as saying that he thinks McGregor is calling the shots in the UFC and that White and Fertitta are okay with it.
“Yeah, from what I think, yeah, [McGregor]’s calling the shots,” Edgar told Ariel Helwani. “I don’t think it matters with Dana [White] and Lorenzo [Fertitta]. Really, I don’t think I’m the best fight that they want…I don’t think they want it either. So I’ve got all three of them against me.”
Edgar (20-4-1) is currently on a five-fight winning streak and 5-1 in his last six bouts.
Edgar was asked if he will ever get a title shot, Edgar responded with a great answer, and that was that he doubts it.
“That’s what I want,” Edgar added. “Am I going to get it? I f*cking doubt it.”
