A prospect of sorts ever since his record-setting KO of Tim Hague in 2009, heavyweight Todd Duffee recently re-established himself on the UFC scene with a 33-second KO of Anthony Hamilton at last December’s UFC 181 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Since then, the American Top Team (ATT) product has spoken up loudly for a bout with legendary former champion Frank Mir, who recently knocked out Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in the main event of February’s UFC Fight Night 60. Mir said that he didn’t stand to gain much by facing Duffee, but apparently that doesn’t matter all that much.

Ariel Helwani broke the news on UFC Tonight that Duffee would face off with Mir at a UFC Fight Night event this summer:

“The UFC tells me that Frank Mir will in fact fight Todd Duffee in the main event of the July 15 UFC Fight Night show on FOX Sports 1 in San Diego, California. That’s a Wednesday night show; Todd Duffee had been campaigning for this fight for quite some time. He gets his wish, a five round main event against the legend, Frank Mir.”

Duffee is a huge and powerful striker who still has a ton of potential at only 29 years old, and Mir has shown a bit of a weak chin in the latter part of his career. But the only time Duffee faced an opponent who could be deemed a top-level contender; he was knocked out by Alistair Overeem at 2010’s Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye in Japan.

Mir has seemingly acquired some newfound striking skill after revamping his training regime following four straight losses. Will that be enough to teach the young upstart Duffee a lesson in San Diego?
