Frank Mir vs. Andrei Arlovski Rematch Becoming A Possibility

When formerly surging heavyweight veterans Andrei Arlovski and Frank Mir threw down in the lackluster co-main event of September 5’s UFC 191, fans were left wondering what could have been.

After all, Arlovski had stormed back into the UFC with three straight wins and won perhaps the greatest one-round bout in UFC history against Travis Browne at UFC 187, and Mir had also made an unlikely comeback in 2015 by starching Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva and Todd Duffee.

But when their understandably anticipated matchup failed to provide the fireworks it was billed for, neither fighter really gained all that much ground despite ‘The Pitbull’ winning a close and ugly split decision.

That’s why Mir’s camp wants to run it back, as his head coach Ricky Lundell told UFC Tonight’s Ariel Helwani that it’s not only a bout they’re looing for, but one that the UFC has actually been a bit receptive to.

As for Arlovski’s camp, his manager Malki Kawa (who interestingly also manages Mir) said he’s looking to get back into the cage sometime in December or January, and would be open to facing Mir again if the promotion should so choose.

So one of 2015’ biggest failed opportunities could see a second chance to provide fans with the hard-hitting bout it was originally supposed to be. But given the extremely slow and dragging pace of their first fight, is it one you’d like to see a second time?
