Frank Mir vs. Daniel Cormier booked for Strikeforce event in October or November

5616556796 b9f98c36f7Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir has volunteered to temporarily move over to Strikeforce to face Daniel Cormier in that promotion’s final Heavyweight fight. Although Cormier is undefeated at 10-0, Mir represents a huge step up in competition.

In an interview with USA Today, UFC President Dana White confirmed the move: There has been a lot of speculation as to who Cormier would fight next, and this is the fight that makes the most sense. The reality is, Cormier is one of the best heavyweights in the world. He just won the grand prix and beat Josh Barnett. He needs to fight opponents of that caliber, and Frank Mir is that guy.”

This bout will take place in October or November of this year, most likely as a five-round main event. Both fighters will transition to UFC after the bout, with the winner in line for a shot at the title.
