Former UFC Fighter Kimbo Slice ‘Reached Out To’ By Bellator MMA
Street fighting Youtube sensation, turned UFC fighter, turned UFC cast off, and now pro boxer Kimbo Slice is once again being linked to the world of pro-MMA. Once a cast member on the UFC’s tenth season of TUF, Slice hasn’t entered the cage since being cut by the promotion in 2010. His last MMA bout on record was his UFC 113 TKO loss to Matt Mitrione.
Kimbo has since gone on to amass a 7-0 record in the boxing ring, but none of his opponents are really worth mentioning, mainly because you would never have heard of them. Seemingly tired of watching his man crush cans with big gloves on, Slice’s manager spoke with MMAFighting.com to reveal his client had an interesting offer recently:
“They had reached out to us, however, it was very informal and nothing has been decided. You know Kimbo is down to fight whenever. There’s actually a few options out there, so whatever makes most sense I think he’s gonna with.”
It’s worth noting that it was under Bjorn Rebeny’s reign of terror that contact was made with Kimbo, but the offer is still apparently enticing the (potential) new boss at BMMA. Was this a last ditch effort by Rebney to save face, or bring Bellator some star appeal? Who knows, but it could work, right?
It’s not like the promotion isn’t used to putting on ‘freak shows’; case in point being Ortiz vs. Schlemenko, so why not bring over a one-dimensional striker to knock out a few of your cans for fun? It’s been one hell of a day for Bellator MMA, where will it stop?
