Tyron Woodley Talks UFC 309

Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is not impressed with the promotion around the upcoming UFC 309 fight card. Speaking in an interview with Plejmo, Woodley explained:

“I forgot Jon Jones was fighting, why is no-one talking about this fight? Why? I think it’s a great fight. I see Jon Jones training with Gabe Stevenson, I like Gabe a lot. I talked to him, not a ton, but I talked to him enough to say that I just like him. He’s bright, he’s like a little point guard in the heavyweight body.

“He’s a great, great training partner for Jon to have for this fight because Stipe was a division one wrestler.Jon Jones is the best fighter that we’ve ever seen. He beat so many fighters in their prime. Demetrius Johnson is the most well-rounded, but it’s no question.

“Jon Jones is the best fighter. What I think people should recognize is, they should say Jon Jones is the best fighter we’ve ever seen. And if he wins this fight, he’s beating the best heavyweight statistically that’s ever lived. It will cement his gold status. But It’s not getting the publicity it deserves. Nobody’s really even talking. I forgot about it until you said it, to be honest. And I feel like that’s kind of like the climate around this fight.”

Jon Jones has an incredible legacy in the light heavyweight division, dominating his peers for nearly a decade and going unbeaten during his title reign. ‘Bones’ vacated his title and went up to heavyweight in early 2023 to capture the title there. Now, he will face Stipe Miocic, at UFC 309, who set the heavyweight record for most title defenses.
