Fighter Expects To Be CM Punk’s Opponent Thanks To Dana White
Former WWE star and now UFC fighter CM Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, might have an opponent for his UFC debut.
UFC President Dana White may have found the man to fight the inexperienced Punk. Mickey Gall, a 1-0 fighter from New Brunswick, N.J., caught White’s after his fight that will be airing on White’s reality series, “Dana White: Looking for a Fight.”
White is now “interested” in the newcomer. Gall quickly submitted his opponent in his professional debut and made the most of the attention. Following the fight, Gall did a post-fight interview and called out Punk.
“Hey Dana White, I don’t know if CM Punk has an opponent,” Gall said afterward in the cage, “but I would love to fight that man.”
White was slightly in shock and told him, “I like where your heads at” while offering congratulations.
“I haven’t heard from Dana White. I’m hoping. I’m around,” Gall told MMA Fighting.com. “I think they’re still trying to figure things out. Now I’m starting to get the buzz, and people are sending me these articles. My phone’s been blowing up with websites posting how I’m probably going to be his opponent. I only hope. I hope, man.”
Punk is expected to fight sometime in 2016. Most think that he’ll fight at UFC 200 for various reasons. For one, it will be the UFC’s biggest show of 2016. Also, the UFC believes that Punk will be a big draw for them on PPV and thus would pop a big buy rate for them with all of the WWE fans tuning in to see him either get his butt kicked or somehow win his first MMA bout in the world’s largest MMA promotion.
Some agree that Punk joining the UFC will bring eyeballs from the pro wrestling audience to the mixed martial arts scene, but some also disagree with the move as they feel it hurts the sport of MMA.
