Fan opinion: The fights to watch this year
Heres a list of some fights that I’m really looking forward to seeing this year and why……
Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson vs Rashad Evans-This fight has been a long time coming, and the hype has built up to boiling point. The two fighters have had a long time feud since The Ultimate Fighter:Heavyweights, where Jackson and Rashad exchanged plenty of heated words. The two are scheduled to meet at UFC 114 on May 29th in a bout that promises some explosive action, with both fighters known for having great KO power.
Frank Mir vs Shane Carwin-I’m a big Mir fan and I also like Shane Carwin, they are two highly skilled fighters and this fight really could go either way. Mir’s stand up is greatly improved and Carwin is a wrecking machine in the stand up with his last 4 fights being finished by KO or TKO, we could also see some ground game from the BJJ black belt Mir. Whichever way this fight goes I’m very excited to see it this Saturday at UFC 111. The title picture will start to take shape after this integral bout.
Gegard Mousasi vs Mohammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal-The strikeforce light heavyweight title is on the line at Strikeforce ‘Nashville’ on April 17th where these two fighters meet. The pre-fight trash talk from ‘King Mo’ has helped hype this one up a lot. With Mousasi widely regarded as one of the best pound for pound fighters on the planet right now and Mo having only six fights on his record this is a true underdog story. I cant wait to see if Mo will back his words up or be made to eat them.
Fedor Emelianenko vs Fabricio Werdum-Fedor is arguably the best pound for pound fighter around right now so any bout would probably get me hyped. Werdum is a great submission fighter and Fedor has great stand up and ground game so this should provide a great spectacle. Although no confirmed date as of yet I always like to see Fedor in action.
GSP vs Dan Hardy-Georges St.Pierre another top p4p fighter will face off against heavy handed brit Dan Hardy in what promises to be a truly explosive match up. Hardy has shown he has great striking abilities and a solid chin while GSP has submission and great stand up skills also so we could see one of the fights of the year this saturday at UFC 111.
Jon Fitch vs Thiago Alves-This rematch promises fireworks with Alves known for his devastating stand up ability and Fitch for his great chin and heart as well as stand up and submissions we are bound to see a finish in this one. The fact that Fitch knocked Alves out from his back in the last fight shows how versatile his skills are and I’m hyped to see how the rematch ends up.
