Fabricio Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez Rematch Official, Date Unknown

Confirming a previous rumor that the next heavyweight title match would take place in the co-main event of December 12’s anticipated UFC 194: ‘Aldo vs. McGregor,’ titleholder Fabricio Werdum will indeed face former champion Cain Velasquez.

‘Vai Cavalo’ famously beat Velasquez in the main event of June 13’s UFC 188 from Mexico City, Mexico, a fight where Velasquez appeared to gas badly after returning from 20 months off due to injury.

There had been several rumors about Werdum’s next opponent, Ariel Helwani revealed on UFC Tonight that Dana White had informed him Velasquez got the nod.

And although it had been rumored for UFC 194, no official date had been determined as of tonight.

With other contenders perhaps deserving a shot more than the largely inactive Velasquez, did the UFC make the right call in booking a rematch so soon?
