Fabricio Werdum is willing to fight Daniel Cormier in Strikeforce
With the unfortunate news that Frank Mir was forced to withdraw from his November 3rd bout with Daniel Cormier in Strikeforce, a search for a new opponent ensues. An accomplished Heavyweight without a fight currently scheduled has stepped and said he would like the fight. That man is none other than Fabricio Werdum, the fighter who put an end to the legendary win streak of Fedor Emelianenko and has most recently been seen in the UFC destroying Roy Nelson and Mike Russow. Werdum was interviewed by MMAInterviews.tv, and said he would speak about it with his head coach:
“”I talk to my coach Rafael Cordeiro first. I don’t know. But if maybe if they (the UFC) tries to call me and Rafael says it’s okay, I’ll fight for sure.”
Werdum also stated in the interview that he has been training five days a week even with no fight on the horizon. Now he has a potential blockbuster bout. Cormier would present a huge challenge in terms of wrestling and striking of Werdum, and vice versa for Cormier in terms of submissions. However, it should be noted that Cormier manhandled Josh Barnett, another acclaimed submission expert, to win the Strikeforce World Heavyweight Grand Prix. Still, Werdum has made no bones about his plans to fight for the UFC title eventually, and there is arguably no other Heavyweight with as much hype and momentum as Cormier right now. Is this a fight that Zuffa should make? Could Werdum possibly stop the freight train that Daniel Cormier has become?
