Fabricio Werdum – Cain Velasquez To Take Place In March

The big question coming into and now out of UFC 191 was the heavyweight division. The champion, Fabricio Werdum, is set to to defend his championship in a rematch with former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez soon. However, when exactly will this be taking place is a big question.

Many have speculated on when the fight will take place since their original fight back at UFC 188.

Following UFC 191, UFC President Dana White shed some light on the situation and really gave a dark cloud over the division in its new champion.

According to White, Werdum doesn’t want to fight until March, which is a long ways away since it’s still September. Many thought it would be in January at UFC 195, but that’s not the case at all.

“The fight won’t happen probably until March,” White said when asked about whether Andrei Arlovski would get a shot after Velasquez. “That’s when Werdum wants to fight…Unfortunately, this heavyweight division is tied up right now. We’ll see how this thing plays out and go from there.”

The heavyweight division has a few potential title contenders that are just waiting to fight, but with a champion not wanting to defend the title often it appears that there will be lengthy time between each title bout.

Velasquez was criticized for not defending the title enough due to the several injuries that he had to deal with during his title reign.

As of now, following this rematch, the UFC will have Andrei Arlovski fight the winner of Werdum – Velasquez.
