Rising welterweight star Erick Silva has had an up and down start to his UFC tenure; since joining the organization back in 2011, ‘Indio’ has gone 4-3 and is yet to put together two straight wins for the promotion. His recent wins, however, have been very impressive. After a debut knockout against Luis Ramos at UFC 134, Silva has finished Charlie Brenneman, Jason High and Takenori Sato, and all within the first round.

Now scheduled to face technical brawler Matt Brown at Fight Night 40, Silva has the chance to prove that he is worthy of all the hype he built while going on a 10-fight win streak between 2007-11. Speaking recently with MMAJunkie.com, ‘Indio’ says he is ready to show what he is made of:

“For me, it is always best to win as fast as I can,But I’d like this fight against Matt Brown to be a tough one because many people think that fast wins are just luck. My coaches are always evaluating me, and they found it kind of funny during my camp because they thought my efforts made it seem like I’m used to fighting five rounds, even though I’m not,” Silva I said. “The way I feel, the condition I’m in, I think I’m totally ready to fight five rounds.”

Five rounds against a savage striker like Matt Brown could prove to be a very demanding task, but would also prove that Silva is able to hang at the top level. Although I admire how game ‘Indio’ is, I don’t imagine he will pass on an opportunity to finish ‘The Immortal’, should it arise early in the fight. Silva continued:

“I’m ready to fight five rounds, but I find an opening, of course I’ll finish this fight as fast as I can, I know I have a lot to show,” Silva said. “People haven’t seen 60 percent of what I have to show. A tough fight could show all my weapons.”

Brown will take home advantage in the Ohio based main event, and will surely be more fired up by the local supporters. Fight Night 40 is looking like a great card, and it appears that the fight at the head of the evening could well provide a lot of fireworks. Is Silva playing mind games, or does he really plan on standing and banging with the always dangerous Brown?
