‘End of a cycle’: Alex Pereira reflects on UFC 307 win, hints at time away

Off the back of his third successful title defense in seven months time, undisputed light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira has revealed plans to take some time away from the Octagon following his stunning bludgeoning of Khalil Rountree at UFC 307 over the weekend.

Pereira, a former undisputed middleweight gold holder and the current light heavyweight champion, headlined UFC 307 last weekend in Salt Lake City, landing a third successful defense of the 205lbs in a showdown with the surging, Rountree.

Turning up the pressure late in the third round following a closely-contested outing for the opening two frames, Sao Paulo finisher, Alex Pereira would then force a hellacious finish in the fourth frame — splitting Rountree with a series of jabs and knees, before crumbling him with body shots for a stoppage win.

And adding the Syndicate MMA staple to a title-winning run which also contains a pair of wins over Jiri Prochazka and former champion, Jamahal Hill, Pereira has already been linked with both a heavyweight move and a title fight clash with enemy, Magomed Ankalaev.

However, in the immediate aftermath of UFC 307, Brazilian fan-favorite, Pereira has confirmed plans to take somewhat of an extended hiatus from the Octagon following his active run.

“Thank you so much for all the support from my fans last night, all that love just makes me always train hard and perform my best to always bring a show for all of you, this year I did 3 fights and ended with 3 wins, with the end of my last fight I feel that was somehow the end of a cycle,” Alex Pereira posted on his official Instagram account. “The talk and love that @danawhite show to me and my team after my fight makes me excited to the future will bring for me in the @ufc.”
