Dustin Poirier: I Feel Like I’m The Best In The World

Dustin Poirier

Former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier believes he is the best fighter in the world after getting back to winning ways against Dan Hooker at UFC on ESPN 12 this past weekend. Poirier and Hooker went to war over five rounds in the night’s main event. ‘The Diamond’ started to take over in the later stages of the bout and ultimately picked up a decision win.

The 31-year-old who previously lost to undisputed lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov was declared the second best 155lb fighter in the world by former dual weight UFC champion Daniel Cormier. Speaking to Ariel Helwani Poirier expressed his belief that he is the best and will prove it if he gets the chance to rematch the undefeated Russian.

“I feel like I’m the best in the world man,” Poirier said. “I made mistakes and I got beaten by Khabib (Nurmagomedov), but I know I can beat Khabib Nurmagomedov, I know I can. I can beat any one of these guys.”

Poirier insists potential rematches with Nurmagomedov or Conor McGregor will not be about avenging defeats, they will solely be about trying to be the undisputed UFC champion, he said.

“I don’t want to get anyone back. I’m not in the grudge match business. I wanna be the best in the world. I wanna be the undisputed world champion.”
