Demetrious Johnson Shuts Down Jon Jones' Perfect Record Debate: 'He Broke the Rules'

Jon Jones is the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. There’s no denying that, but even GOATs lose from time to time. And make no mistake; Jon Jones has lost.

During a recent appearance on the Jaxxon Podcast with Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Demetrious Johnson offered his take on the great GOAT debate, suggesting that even the best of the best fall inside the cage. Even Johnson, who is regarded by many as the greatest flyweight of all time and perhaps the best P4P fighter ever, has suffered losses against the likes of Henry Cejudo and Adriano Moraes.

“You look at the best, they’ve all lost,” Johnson said whilst discussing the topic.

“(Jon Jones) did lose, he lost to Matt Hamill, yep, he f*cking lost, he broke the rules. As loss is a loss. 28 wins and one loss, he lost to Matt Hamill… Still a loss motherf*cker,” DJ continued while arguing with ‘Rampage’ Jackson.

While most consider Jon Jones an undefeated fighter, the fact remains that his record reads 28-1, even if the loss was and still is highly controversial.

Jon Jones’ loss to Matt Hamill remains as the only blemish in an otherwise perfect MMA run

In just his fourth fight with the promotion, ‘Bones’ was taking it to Matt Hamill in the opening round of their clash at The Ultimate Fighter 10 finale. With Jones reigning down shots on Hamill, Steve Mazzagatti should have stepped in and called for the stoppage.

Instead, he allowed the onslaught to continue. That was until Jones unleashed a couple of 12-to-6 elbows which were illegal at the time.

With Hamill unable to continue, Jones was disqualified, stripping him of his undefeated record.

In November, the ban on 12-to-6 elbows was officially lifted, prompting Jon Jones to call for his DQ loss to be overturned. UFC CEO Dana White has also worked to try and get the result reversed, but to no avail.

Chances are, ‘Bones’ will retire with a blemish on his record, even if he never loses another fight.
