Nick Diaz is a no show for World Jiu-Jitsu Expo match with Braulio Estima

Nick Diaz was suppossed to face Braulio Estima in a BJJ Superfight in Long Beach, California today as part of the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo. Diaz said he would donate his winnings to charity. Unfortunately for the charity in question (St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital)and fans who paid to see the match, when it came time to step on the mat, Diaz was not present.

Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com asked Cesar Gracie, Diaz’s trainer and manager, the reason. Gracie had this to say: “I don’t know. I know he was mad when he was told Braulio could not make weight last night. No one has seen him today. Braulio ended up making weight this morning.”

Helwani reported that Estima refused to fight Robert Drysdale, who volunteered to fill in for Diaz. Estima turned down the offer saying: “I came to fight Nick Diaz.”

According to Damon Martin at MMAWeekly.com  Estima was angry about the No-Show: “This is a very sad situation for me, I came all the way from the U.K. Came here, made weight, woke up at 5 o’clock in the morning for one and a half hours in the sauna, made weight at 180lbs. I’m here as a professional athlete, Mr. Diaz supposed to be here, all the things about agreeing for it to be for charity, he doesn’t even show up.”

Estima then challenged Diaz to an MMA fight: “I’ll be more than happy to show up in his sport of MMA, and I will fight him any time and I’ll make sure I’ll be there.”

Diaz will not be able to fight him in a sanctioned MMA Fight while he is on suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission for testing positive for marijuana after his loss to Carlos Condit earlier this year.
