Demetrious Johnson To Nick Diaz: ‘Stop F**king Smoking Weed’

Demetrious Johnson

Current UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson spoke with Peter Rosenberg of Hot 97 about various topics, but what stood out the most from this interview was Johnson talking about Nick Diaz and his suspension. As most people know by now, the Nevada State Athletic Commission announced last Monday (9/14/15) that UFC welterweight Nick Diaz has been suspended for five years because he failed a drug test for weed back in January.

Johnson gave his take on the matter, which was quite strong.

“I haven’t’ talked to any fighters personally, like face to face, but on Twitter you see everyone say that it’s was too harsh. Even Ronda Rousey said that it was harsh. But I’m not a big drug user, whether you need it for medical reasons or for fun or whatever it is. But the fact that this is the third time he’s been caught, but he does have a medical marijuana card. I told everyone, you know the big simple reason that this would have never happened? Stop f**king smoking weed when you’re two weeks out from your fight. Simple. This would never [have] happened. His medical stuff is whatever.

Johnson brought up that some people said that they would never fight in Las Vegas, Nevada due to this ruling. That “some people” was Henry Cejudo, who has gone on record by saying that he refuses to fight in the state of Nevada due to the NSAC ruling on the Diaz case.

“I’m still going to fight in Vegas. That doesn’t involve me and all these people talk about rallying the fighters together. It’s a shame that something like this would have to rally the fighters together. I signed the petition, I think five years is too long because you’re pretty much done. But I don’t have a ton of sympathy. Dude, just stop smoking weed. I understand that you need it to calm you down on fight night, but maybe you shouldn’t be fighting in the UFC. Maybe you should be fighting somewhere else. Where they allow marijuana use.”
