Elias Theodorou Outpoints Daniel Kelly In Hostile Territory
Daniel Kelly couldn’t get the job done against Elias Theodorou.
The second bout on the main card of UFC Fight Night 121 took place in the middleweight division. Theodorou and Kelly threw leather inside the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.
Right away, Theodorou threw out a series of leg kicks. He went high with a kick, but it was blocked. Kelly spent the entire opening minute blocking kicks and receiving leg kicks. He charged forward, looking for a clean shot. He clipped his opponent. Theodorou ate some uppercuts, but wasn’t hurt. Kelly put the pressure on again later in the round. Theodorou’s activity never slowed down in the opening round.
Theodorou got the second stanza started the same way he did in the first round. Kelly tripped his opponent. Theodorou was able to get back up. He accidentally kicked Kelly low. Time resumed and Theodorou wasn’t shy to keep throwing kicks. Two knees to the body were there for Theodorou. Kelly wasn’t deterred from moving forward.
The two exchanged strikes in the final frame. Kelly took his opponent down. He took the back and went for a rear-naked choke. Theodorou gave a thumbs up. He got out of it. A knee to the head was there for Theodorou.
All three judges saw the fight for Theodorou, who was met with a chorus of boos in enemy territory.
Final Result: Elias Theodorou def. Daniel Kelly via unanimous decision (30-28, 30-27, 30-26)
