Dana White "Overeem will take over as the best"

After a quiet few days, UFC President Dana White is continuing his full-court press in the media following Fedor Emelianenko‘s shocking submission loss to Fabrico Werdum last weekend, challenging UFC haters to find a new “best fighter in the world” and telling radio station 106.7 The Fan that he expects Alistair Overeem to become the one that those fans flock to now that “The Last Emperor” has fallen;

“Here we go. Alistair Overeem is gonna be the new guy? Alistsair Overeem got knocked out by Chuck Liddell at 205. You know what’s funny? Because we don’t have him signed he’ll be the new guy. The guy that Chuck knocked out at 205. All the UFC haters will be like, ‘oh yeah, this guy is the best.’ And all the idiot websites will rank him the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.”

Overeem and Liddell fought in PRIDE in the 2003 Middleweight Grand Prix Quarterfinal with Liddell scoring a first-round knockout victory. Though Overeem went through a stretch of four losses in five fights in the final days of PRIDE and in his final days as a Light Heavyweight fighter, “The Demolition Man” has since gone 9-1 with one no contest, scoring three knockouts and six submissions in that stretch.

Though Overeem and the UFC have been rumored to have had negotiations in the past, there has not been the same clamoring for him to join the roster that there was in the past for Emelianenko. Whether White’s prophecy comes true and Overeem becomes the new “chosen one” of hardcore fans and UFC foes alike remains to be seen, but rest assured that if he does, White will levy more attacks in the future.
