Dan Henderson returns to training next month at Asia’s Evolve MMA
Amidst all of the endless injury talk that has dominated MMA for months now, it finally appears that one fighter is able to return to training on schedule. That fighter is Dan Henderson, whose injury partly lead to the cancellation of UFC 151, sparking a fallout of epic proportions. The resulting bout of Jon Jones versus Vitor Belfrot was rescheduled an Jones won but injured his arm in the process. Henderson, however, is rumored to be fighting Lyoto Machida for a perceived 205 lb. title shot even though the length of Jones’s stay on the shelf is unknown to this point. Next month, Henderson will be making the long trek to Singapore to enlist in the training camp at Evolve MMA, highly touted for its knowledge in both Muay Thai and BJJ.
Evolve MMA has made quite the name for itself in terms of training for the sport within Asia, where it is known to be the top gym in the land. There, Henderson will run into fellow American Rich Franklin, he himself training for a bout with flashy striker Cung Le in Macau later on this year. He will always have the tutelage of nine BJJ black belts and a litany of Muay Thai aficionados according to MMAMania.com. Henderson appears to have healed nicely from the partial tear of hi MCL that led him to drop out of his first fight ever. He will need all of the strength he can get if he wants to add that last piece of hardware to his collection, the elusive UFC belt.
Jon Jones may be injured for quite some time, perhaps not. Dana White may force Henderson to re-earn the title shot against Lyoto Machida, who could have faced Jones at 152 but ultimately decided against it. The Light Heavyweight title mix is up in the air right now, but Dan Henderson is returning to training in October.
