Cris Cyborg Return Set For Same Weekend & City As Ronda Rousey

Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg Justino will return to action after an extended hiatus from MMA, to defend her belt against Charmaine Tweet. Justino hasn’t seen any time in the cage since a 2013 demolition of Marloes Coenen, and it’s hard to imagine that 6-4 Tweet will offer much more resistance than Coenen did back in July 2013.

That was at Invicta FC 6 for the inaugural female featherweight strap, but there is some signifigance in when and where Cris Cyborg will make her first title defense. Indeed, Justino will face Tweet in Las Angeles, California on February 27th, 2015. The same weekend and city that UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will face Cat Zingano at UFC 184, which will transpire on Saturday 28th of Feb.

The long-held rivalry between Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg has been a heavy topic of discussion recently, with UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta re-opening talks with the Invicta FC champ. As it stands, the sister promotion of the UFC is certainly headed in the right direction, as essentially co-promoting both organisation’s marquee female fighters will help keep the focus on WMMA and Invicta FC.
