Conor McGregor Squashes Twitter Beef With Khabib

Today the MMA world has been awash with Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s exhausting Twitter war that became increasingly personal.

It all began when McGregor insulted Khabib’s wife in a since-deleted tweet. It came as part of a late-night Twitter storm last night:

KhabibsWife 1

That lead to Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz blasting McGregor by calling him a rapist. Khabib followed with his own tweet that did the same:

The social media callouts lead many to say that MMA was headed to a disgusting, disrespectful place that stretched far beyond the bounds of entertaining trash talk.

Indeed, Dana White said the UFC would be intervening to get the situation dissolved. Perhaps that strategy has worked, as McGregor apparently taken to Twitter to squash the beef tonight because of its religious undertones:

“I want to move forward, with my fans of all faiths and all backgrounds. All faiths challenge us to be our best selves. It is one world and one for all. Now see you in the Octagon.””

A nice bit of damage control from McGregor, who clearly had someone telling him to delete the wife tweet and say he values his fans of all faiths.

But it’s hard to argue the damage hasn’t been done, as McGregor hasn’t won a fight since 2016. He has, however, been arrested twice in the past year and is currently facing a sexual assault investigation in his native Dublin.

The MMA world seems burnt out by his grasping attempts to stay relevant, but in terms of casual mainstream fans, they’re eating this up. A rematch with Khabib may be coming soon as a result.
