Conor McGregor Reveals Target Date For Return Fight
There’s been a lot of talk about Conor McGregor’s return fight. But it’s all seemed to be a lot more smoke than fire. In fact, “The Notorious” has seemingly become more well-known for his arrest record than his track record for winning UFC fights of late.
The infamous Irish star was last seen losing a lopsided submission bout to current champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. He will soon be off suspension for his involvement in the post-fight brawl that followed. McGregor made headlines earlier this week by allegedly taking a man’s phone outside a Miami club and smashing it before walking off with it.
In terms of actual fighting, McGregor has been linked to a potential bout with Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone. However, the bout has lost a ton of steam lately. The UFC supposedly wanted it to be in a co-main event spot, a ridiculous proposition. We’ll have to see what transpires, yet McGregor gave some insight into that during an interview with an ABC news affiliate during the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day parade
”Yes, we’re currently in negotiations, we’re aiming for July, we’ll see what happens,” McGregor said. “I am staying ready. This morning I was doing incline sprints on the treadmill on my program, the McGregorFast program, today in a hotel room. So we’re staying on it, getting work in as we go.”
He has no official opponent as of yet. So that July date sounds like more of a target area than anything concrete. It would make sense nonetheless, as there’s perhaps no better time for the sport’s biggest star to return than July’s International Fight Week.
Now the UFC just needs him to find him an opponent worthy of such a huge fight. And McGregor needs to stay out of jail.
