Conor McGregor Opening Betting Favorite Over Donald Cerrone
Conor McGregor will finally make his highly-anticipated return to the UFC’s Octagon in January.
The Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion has announced that McGregor will take on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at the upcoming UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) event on January 18 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In an interesting twist, the fight will be taking place at welterweight, rather than McGregor’s former championship weight class of 155 pounds, a division in which he seeks a rematch with rival and current division champ Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Per BetMGM.com, McGregor is a fairly sizable favorite for the matchup, coming in at a -278 favorite, with Cerrone listed as a +200 underdog. For example, if you bet $100 on Cerrone, you’ll receive a payout of $300 should he win. A $100 wager on McGregor will result in a $136 payout.
McGregor hasn’t fought since his October 2018 loss to Nurmagomedov in Las Vegas. “The Eagle” pretty much dominated the matchup for the most part, before submitting the Irishman in the fourth round. It marked only the second loss of McGregor’s run with the UFC. He’ll look to get back on the winning track against Cerrone, who is on a two-fight losing streak after back-to-back TKO losses to Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje at lightweight.
Now, he’ll jump back up to 170 pounds to welcome back the biggest star MMA has ever seen in January.
What do you think about McGregor opening up as the betting favorite over Cerrone for January?
