Conor McGregor Tells ‘Novice’ Chad Mendes He Will Rearrange His Face
We are now just one day away from the biggest event of the year, as UFC 189 is set to go down tomorrow night from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada featuring a headlining featherweight interim title fight between the “Notorious” Conor McGregor and No. 1-contender Chad “Money” Mendes.
McGregor was supposed to face off with reigning king Jose Aldo in what was one of the most promoted and hyped up fights in the history of the sport mainly due to McGregor’s trash talk, but Aldo was unfortunately forced out of the bout due to a rib injury.
However, McGregor doesn’t care about the opponent change. Speaking at the pre-fight press conference yesterday (July 9, 2015), the Irishman said that he is No. 1, and that it doesn’t matter who is put in front of him because he will win no matter what:
“My mind is absolutely bullet-proof, as solid as a rock. I am No 1 so if you are No 1, who gives a s*** if No 2 steps out in place of No 3?”
“I am No 1 so it makes no difference who is standing on the other side of the Octagon, I will win.”
Also, just because his opponent changed, doesn’t mean the trash talk has stopped from McGregor, and his confidence is clearly still booming. Later on in the press conference, the “Notorious” one said that in his eyes Mendes is nothing but a novice with an overhand right, and that he will rearrange the face of “Money”:
“His facial structure will be rearranged after the fight.”
“He’s a novice in my eyes. He throws an overhand right, looks at the floor, closes his eyes and hopes for the best. That is day one beginner stuff where I come from. He will find out the difference in skill level when we collide.”
Although the confidence is there for the brash Irishman, Mendes is undoubtedly the biggest challenge of McGregor’s career. “Money” is an elite 145-pound fighter, a top contender, a multi-time challenger, and he may be able to give the “Notorious” one problems.
However, McGregor stated that Mendes will eventually cower. The Irish sensation says that this is his event, and that he is just waiting to pull the trigger and eliminate his opponent:
“He’s a rookie; he’s a white belt on the mat. In the grappling exchanges he will learn and panic will set in and he will cower like a little girl and begin his run, but I will catch him.”
“I’m waiting patiently to pull the trigger. We’ve done a lot of build-up; I built this event, this is the McGregor show. I’m going to eliminate my opponent and I’m going to enjoy every moment of it.”
Can the “Notorious” one back up all his talk, and prove that this really is the McGregor show once the cage door closes tomorrow night?
