Colby Covington Gets Personal In Latest Dustin Poirier Jabs

Colby Covington

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington aimed at Dustin Poirier once again this week; this time arguably crossing the line with trash talk.

Covington and Poirier were teammates at American Top Team in South Florida, before Covington left the gym and eventually joined MMA Masters. The two of them have gone back-and-forth in the media in recent years and their relationship has completely deteriorated.

Trash talk is nothing new for Covington, who has managed to alienate himself against almost every top contender in the welterweight division, as well as some at other weight classes. But during a recent interview with The Schmo, Covington took things to another level when asked about Poirier.

“It’s so personal, this isn’t about the rankings,” Covington said. “He’s number one at lightweight, I’m number one at welterweight, but to be honest Schmo, we weigh the exact same weight. He probably weighs five or 10 pounds more than me. We used to step on the scale every day and Dustin was like 185, 190. I’m about 182, 185 max. It’s not like I’m picking on a guy in a different weight class.”

“I’m picking on a guy that said it’s ‘on sight’ in the media. He said when I see Colby, it’s ‘on sight.’ I wanna keep these guys held accountable for their street cred,” Covington continued. “They’re talking all this s* in the media but when it’s time to do business and get in the cage and actually fight, they’re nowhere to be found. So Dustin, you’re an f-ing coward, your wife is a hoe and she has fake t**s on her chest, and you’re a piece of s*** father.”

Colby Covington’s Comments Come After Dustin Poirier Said He Intends To Move To Welterweight

Poirier has recently said that he intends to move to welterweight for the remainder of his UFC career and that he may be completely done with lightweight. Poirier made the comments during a recent interview with Ariel Helwani.

That means a matchup between Poirier and Covington may not be too far-fetched. Poirier has also gotten into squabbles with Nate Diaz, and they could fight next.

It’s clear that whatever relationship Covington and Poirier once had has completely soured out, and these two could be on a collision course at 170 pounds.
