Colby Covington Appraises Paddy Pimblett Showdown: “He’s Been Running His Mouth”
Colby Covington has floated the idea of a potential showdown with UFC star Paddy Pimblett.
As we know, Colby Covington is one of the most controversial figures in mixed martial arts today. He says and does things to wind up the masses and more often than not, it works. Unfortunately, in his last few fights, he’s wound up on the losing end of things – most recently against Joaquin Buckley just a matter of weeks ago.
Now, it’s time for Colby Covington to look ahead to the future. In a recent interview, he named Paddy Pimblett as someone he could picture himself competing against in the future.
Colby Covington shows interest in Paddy Pimblett
“I think there are some intriguing fights out there. You know, I just want the biggest and best fights. Everybody knows I’m the marquee.
“That fight I showed up for on two weeks’ notice, with no training camp—look at what it ended up being. It ended up being the highest gate in North American history for a Fight Night. So, you know, that’s what happens when Colby Covington is on the marquee and he shows up. He’s the biggest star in the division. Colby Covington is the premier fighter for the welterweight division.
“So I only want the premier, biggest, and best fights. Whoever that is, I don’t know. I’m going to let Hunter Campbell decide that—he’s the face that runs the place, so he can decide who it is. We’ve had some chats. He wished me a Merry Christmas and said we’ve got some big things in store for me, so we’ll see.
You know, there are a couple of guys out there. Paddy Pimblett is always an option. You know, he’s a big name, and he’s been running his mouth about me, so I’d love to settle that. Michael Chandler is always a possibility too; he’s run his mouth as well.
