Coach: Faber Feels Comfortable Fighting Dillashaw Now

Urijah Faber

The idea of a potential showdown between veteran former WEC champion Urijah Faber and current UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillshaw has been thrown around for quite some time now, and although neither necessarily put down the idea, it seemed as if the two Team Alpha Male staples weren’t all that interested in fighting one another.

However, things have drastically changed in recent weeks, as Dillashaw has packed his bags and moved full time to Colorado where he will join Team Elevation. Not only are the two no longer teammates, but it seems as if a growing feud between the two has formed through the media with the idea of fighting each other becoming a more realistic one.

Team Alpha Male Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach Fabio Prado recently spoke on the topic, saying that not only does the UFC have a great opportunity here, but that Faber is now interested in the bout as well:

“I don’t see the UFC losing that amazing opportunity to use all this hype to promote such a great clash of champions,” Prado said to Sherdog yesterday. “Faber didn’t want that fight in the past, but now he feels comfortable facing him.”

Dillashaw leaving the Sacramento based team has become one of the biggest story lines in mixed martial arts (MMA) with many media members, and fighters having different opinions on the matter. While some of the Team Alpha Male members aren’t happy with “Killashaw”, Prado understands the champion’s decision from a financial stand point.

However, the coach isn’t worried when it comes to producing champions now that Dillashaw is gone:

“Dillashaw left because a new team in Colorado offered him a good salary to train there and be part of the team,” Prado said. “I understand his point and I can’t criticize that, but what I can say is that we have at least 10 talents like him at Team Alpha Male. There are not only fighters here, but great trainers. I’m sure we’ll produce another champion soon.”

Dillashaw is now preparing for the biggest fight of his life with his new camp, as he is set to defend his title against former champion Dominick Cruz in January. Faber on the other hand, is set to meet Frankie Saenz at UFC 194 in December.
