Claudia Gadelha Eyeing Trilogy Bout Against Joanna Jedrzejczyk

Claudia Gadelha, Joanna Jedrzejczyk

Claudia Gadelha got back into the win column at UFC 239 as she beat Randa Markos by decision.

She lost her last fight against Nina Ansaroff at UFC 231 before beating the Canadian. The win also improved her MMA record to 17-4, and after the win, the Brazilian is already eyeing her next fight – against longtime rival Joanna Jedrzejczyk:

“I was a little surprised because I wanted to beat Randa tonight and call out Joanna. Cause I feel like it’s 1-1 and we gotta do a third fight,” Gadelha said post-fight. “She told me that, she knows that. I wanted to fight Joanna again, but I was a little surprised when I found out she’s fighting Michelle Waterson now. So let’s wait for them to fight and I’ll wait for that to happen because I really wanna fight Joanna again.”

The two fought back in December 2014 where Gadelha lost by split-decision in a very close fight. And, according to MMADecisions.com, 12 media members scored the fight for the Brazilian while only two scored it for the then-champ.

Gadelha and Jedrzejczyk then fought again in 2016, where the Polish fighter won by unanimous decision. The two have since gone their separate ways. As for why she wants the trilogy fight now, her disdain for the former champion hasn’t gone anywhere:

“We hate each other. Joanna, I respect her as a fighter, as a professional athlete but I don’t respect her as a person. And I spent eight weeks with her on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ and it was a nightmare,” she said.

“The way she is, the kind of person she is. And I feel like I beat her the first time. If everybody goes back and watch that fight, I beat Joanna. And that was a nightmare for my life cause I couldn’t accept that loss. So I really feel like we gotta get back in there and do it again.”

For now, Jedrzejczyk has a fight booked against Michelle Waterson, and a trilogy fight seems unlikely.
