Chris Weidman vs. Yoel Romero Official For UFC 205
The announcements are coming thick and fast for UFC 205. Late last night the promotion put all the rumours to rest, confirming that Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez would headline the New York Event. The promotional debut at the Madison Square Garden, and New York, is set to be a big one. Rumours ran wild earlier this month about Alvarez making his first title defense against McGregor, but a few twists to the tale left us without confirmation. Khabib Nurmagomedov signed a bout agreement, but ‘The Notorious’ was clearly more in favour.
Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson, as well as Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz were already set for November 12. With the addition of Alvarez vs. McGregor that’s three huge title fights in the Big Apple. Reports of a middleweight clash between Chris Weidman and Yoel Romero went quiet for a while. Rumours that the bonus-ban handed down to Al Iaquinta left Weidman sour have now also been put to bed.
All-American in New York
It had to be. The former UFC middleweight champion and popular New Yorker Chris Weidman has now been confirmed for UFC 205. As previously thought, he’ll be facing fierce contender Yoel Romero. What a card! Here’s UFC VP of public relations Dave Sholler with the announcement:

With Michael Bisping vs. Dan Henderson going down at UFC 204 for the title, Weidman vs. Romero is a pivotal bout at 185 pounds. The division once again stands on the brink of some incredible fights down the line.
