Despite having to deal with a plethora of injuries over the last few years, UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has looked rather dominant in his title reign. Securing two dominant wins over all-time great Anderson Silva, a five-round victory against Lyoto Machida that proved his heart and champion worth, and a first-round finish of Vitor Belfort, Weidman has emerged as a star and a force at 185-pounds.

However, that doesn’t mean the champion plans to stay at middleweight forever. Recently speaking with FightHype.com, the New York native stated that the 185-pound division is just a baby step, and that he anticipates a step up to 205-pounds in the near future. Weidman also took a shot at the middleweights, saying that they’re just no competition:

“I’m tryna go up to 205 lbs. and dominate up there too,” Weidman said. “185 lbs. is just the first baby step. There’s a very realistic chance of going up to 205. At some point just to get some more competition. These guys at middleweight are just – they’re no competition.”

Speaking on the light heavyweight division, Weidman gave his opinion on disgraced former champion Jon Jones, as well as newly crowned champion Daniel Cormier, saying that “DC” is running and that he knows Weidman is coming for him:

“They know I’m looking for ’em,” Weidman said. “Cormier’s running, he might be up to heavyweight soon – he’s eating chicken, but I’m training – so, yeah. Jon Jones, I don’t know who he is.”

Despite his desire to move up, Weidman definitely has some work to do at 185-pounds, and it’s perceived that his next title defense will likely be against Cormier’s teammate, top-contender Luke Rockhold, and the three men actually got into a twitter war of sorts after “DC” got wind of Weidman’s comments.
