Charles Oliveira vs Nik Lentz Scrapped

UFC featherweight Charles Oliveira has been under the weather lately, so much so that the Brazilian weighed in four pounds over the limit at the UFC Fight Night 50 weigh-ins. The Macaco BJJ black belt revealed later that he had been battling a viral infection this week. Oliveira was scheduled to face “Carny” Nik Lentz tonight (Friday Sept. 5th, 2014) in a rematch of their 2011 no-contest.

News has broken today on UFC.com, stating that Oliveira is unable to compete at UFC Fight Night 50:

“Oliveira, who was getting over a viral infection he contracted in Brazil, had a relapse earlier this week and missed weight for the bout Thursday, coming in at 150 pounds. He did not attempt to weigh in again. This morning, the Brazilian fell ill, and after being seen by a doctor he was pulled from the bout.”

This isn’t great news for either man, and marks the next in a long line of fighters to withdraw from UFC events on the day. Stefan Struve feinted backstage before his scheduled bout against Matt Mitrione, although they both got paid. Former bantamweight champion Renan Barao was not so lucky, and he finds himself in no man’s land after dropping out of UFC 177 on weigh-ins day.
