Charles Oliveira, Dustin Poirier Faceoff For Final Time

Charles Oliveira

The UFC title fight between Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier is set for UFC 269, as both successfully weighed in and shared quite the intense faceoff at the ceremonial weigh-ins.

Both fighters weighed in at a championship weight of 155 ahead of their highly-anticipated matchup in the UFC 269 main event. It was an electric atmosphere at T-Mobile Arena shortly afterward as the two came face to face for a final time before the bout.

Oliveira earned the title by knocking out Michael Chandler earlier this year at UFC 262, in a gutsy performance after early struggles. This will be his first title defense since earning the belt.

Poirier earned the top contender spot by earning back-to-back wins over Conor McGregor at UFC 257 and UFC 264. He was anticipated to face Oliveira earlier this year for the then-vacant title but opted to fight McGregor in a trilogy instead.

This will also be Poirier’s second shot at the title after losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242.

Oliveira’s run to the belt was one of the most remarkable title runs in recent UFC history. After an up-and-down tenure at featherweight which featured multiple weight misses, Oliveira has found a true home at 155 pounds winning nine-straight fights.

Not only that, but Oliveira has also gotten wins over some of the most veteran lightweights in UFC history. This includes dominant performances against Tony Ferguson, Jim Miller, and Clay Guida en route to the title.

Oliveira vs. Poirier in a way will reel in a new era at lightweight. This comes after Nurmagomedov’s legendary run through the division both as a contender and as the champion.

The winner will more than likely face Justin Gaethje next for the belt, who recently defeated Chandler at UFC 268.
