Chael Sonnen recalls being paid $100 for his UFC debut at UFC 55

Chael Sonnen has come a long way since making his UFC debut at UFC 55, a fight he lost to Renato Sobral via a second round triangle choke submission. That fight took place in front of 8,000 fans at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Casino.

On Saturday, Sonnen will face Michael Bisping at Chicago’s United Center; a fight that the UFC has announced via press release is officially sold out. The press release did not state how many tickets were sold for the UFC on FOX 2 event, but capacity for the arena is in the range of 20,000.

Sonnen recently reminisced about his early days in MMA with MMA30TV, recalling how for that first fight, he was given a check for $100. Sonnen admits that check remains uncashed and on his refrigerator.
