Chael Sonnen Assaulted Five Victims During Las Vegas Brawl
Las Vegas Police have confirmed that former UFC middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen was involved in a brawl this past weekend at the Luxor Hotel and Casino.
Police responded to reports of a disturbance just after 7 p.m. on Saturday. According to witnesses, Sonnen was seen banging on the hotel room door of an unidentified couple before getting into an altercation with the male. The female was seen and heard by witnesses asking for help as Sonnen allegedly assaulted her partner.
But it appears that Sonnen may have assaulted five different people during the incident, and was served with five battery citations, and was briefly detained. Since officers didn’t witness the incident first-hand, they did not arrest Sonnen.
Paramedics arrived shortly after the original 911 call was made, but no injuries were reported in the brawl. The investigation into the incident involving Sonnen is ongoing.
Sonnen was recently seen in a brief clip published by TMZ being escorted out of the hotel hallway in handcuffs.
Chael Sonnen Hasn’t Publically Commented On The Alleged Incident
As of now, it’s unclear what led up to the physical altercation and a public records request into the incident is still pending. We’ll more than likely learn more about the incident later this week.
Sonnen is highly regarded as one of the greatest promoters of MMA in the sport’s history. After a successful career in the cage, he transitioned to a commentary role on ESPN and through his YouTube podcast.
Sonnen retired from MMA following a brief stint with Bellator. Sonnen last competed against Lyoto Machida at Bellator 222.
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones poked at Sonnen following the news breaking of the incident. The two had gone back and forth on social media after Jones was arrested for allegedly battering his fiancee in Las Vegas earlier this year.
