Carwin and Nelson to coach next season of The Ultimate Fighter on FX
UFC Heavyweights Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin will serve as coaches on the 16th season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), culminating in a season-ending fight between the two in the show’s finale. UFC President Dana White revealed the news as an exclusive to USA Today Sports, this morning.
According to White: “This is going to be a very interesting dynamic between these two heavyweights. They both have huge punching power and great chins, but outside of the octagon, they couldn’t be any more different. These two have been going at it on social media for a while and don’t seem to like each other very much, but they are going to be seeing a lot of each other during this series. I guarantee it will make for great TV.”
When he’s not fighting, Shane Carwin is a mechanical engineer, whereas Nelson is a full time fighter. Carwin and Nelson were scheduled to fight 265-pound brawl at the UFC 125 in 2010; however, Carwin had to pull out of the due to back surgery.
The Ultimate Fighter, the UFC’s long-running reality series, airs on FX and this season begins in September. FX will air the live finale from Las Vegas in December. TUF has launched the UFC careers of nearly 200 mixed martial artists during its seven years on the air including Rashad Evans, Forrest Griffin, Matt Serra and Roy Nelson, himself.
This upcoming season will focus on Welterweights.
