Carlos Condit Vs. Matt Brown May Happen After All

This weekend’s UFC on Fox 9 took a huge hit when Matt Brown was forced to withdraw from his welterweight slobber knocker with former interim champ Carlos Condit.

It’s still unknown as to just how serious Brown’s injury is and if he will require surgery or not. On last night’s edition of “UFC Tonight,” Ariel Helwani revealed that Condit vs. Brown may indeed end taking place after all:

“I spoke to Matt Brown’s wife who told me as of right now, he won’t need surgery. Now, the plan right now for Carlos Condit is they want him to fight at UFC 170 on February 22. If Brown doesn’t need surgery on that injured back they might do that fight again. If the injury is very serious then they’re gonna have Carlos Condit fight someone else. But right now for Condit UFC 170 in Las Vegas, Brown, still up in the air.”

So while Brown’s wife is doubting that “The Immortal” will require surgery, no official word has come out. If she is indeed right and Brown can return soon, he may his date with Condit after all.

And let’s hope it does, because I don’t think I’m alone in saying that was one of the most hard-nosed, gritty, and anticipated wars on the UFC schedule.

Brown has looked unstoppable as of late, tearing through six straight opponents while only going to the judges’’ scorecards one single time. He was most recently seen defeating veteran Mike Pyle in 29 seconds at UFC Fight Night 26.

“The Natural Born Killer” recently got back on the winning track with a brutal fourth round technical knockout of Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann at UFC Fight Night 27 in August. Condit had dropped two fights to the division’s absolute best in Georges St. Pierre and Johny Hendricks.

There’s not much doubt that their fight would be an action-packed battle that most likely wouldn’t go the full distance. Here’s to hoping Brown recovers quickly and the fight happens soon.
