Carlos Condit Will Wait For Robbie Lawler To Heal Up

Carlos Condit

As noted, UFC President Dana White announced on Sportscenter Friday night that Ronda Rousey will fight Holly Holm at UFC 193, not UFC 195.

The reason for this is because the originally scheduled bout between UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler (26-10, 1 NC) and Carlos Condit (30-8) was scrapped due to “Ruthless” suffering a thumb injury.

Condit was a guest on AXS TV’s “Inside MMA” shortly after the news broke on Friday night and commented on the news.

“It’s obviously disappointing,” Condit said. “This is something that I have been through before and it’s really just the nature of the sport.”

In some good news, Carlos Condit said that he will continue to train to stay in shape so whenever his championship bout takes place, he’s ready. Condit also revealed that he will not be fighting at UFC 193 at all and will wait for that bout to take place.

“At this point, no, I’m not fighting on the same card, and no, I have not been offered any other opponents,” Condit said. “Another opportunity might come my way, and either way, I need to stay in shape – not just in case of an opportunity, but for my sanity. Training is my therapy.”

When asked if the UFC has a timeline for the championship bout, Condit revealed that he nor the UFC really knows when the fight will take place. He did say that Lawler’s injury would need a decent amount of time to heal.

“We don’t really have a timeline at this point on his return, but we’ll see,” Condit said. “If it’s plausible for that to be my next fight if he heals up in a decent amount of time, of course, I’d like to fight him. I was really, really excited for that matchup.”

UFC 193 will be held on November 15, 2015 (in the U.S) from Melbourne, Australia at Etihad Stadium.
