Carlos Condit: It Wasn’t My Decision To Fight For Title At UFC 195
Former interim UFC welterweight champion Carlos Condit (30-8) has received some criticism from fans as well as media personnel for fighting current UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler (26-10, 1 NC) at UFC 195.
The two were originally scheduled to fight at UFC 193, but the fight was moved back after “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler suffering a thumb injury.
The reason for the criticism is because of Condit’s performance as of late. After his five-fight winning streak came to a close after losing to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 154 by unanimous decision, Condit has since gone 2-2. He’s currently on a one-fight winning streak after he beat Thiago Alves at UFC Fight Night 67 by second-round TKO.
Many have expressed their feelings of Condit getting a title shot due to his performances in his recent bouts and that there are other fighters in the division that should be given a title shot.
While promoting UFC 195 at the Ultimate in Las Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday, Condit stated that he is not at all concerned with who thinks he does not deserve a shot at the title now because it was not his call, but rather the UFC’s.
“The decision was not mine. Of course, I will always seek the title fight because I want to be in big fights. That’s my job as a fighter: trying to promote me to have big fights. Who did not like to ask the UFC. But for me, this is the fight that had to happen at that time.”
UFC 195 takes place on January 2, 2016, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
