Cain Velasquez Set For Pro-Wrestling Debut
Another former UFC star has decided to jump ship to the professional wrestling game.
Two-time UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has signed with Lucha Libre wrestling promotion AAA. The signing was announced earlier today (Tues. March 26, 2019) at the Triplemanía press conference in Mexico City, Luchablog reports.
Velasquez was introduced as the promotion’s newest competitor, and was subsequently challenged to a match by stars such as Psycho Clown, Texano, and Pentagon Jr.
Velasquez will appear for AAA at their Triplemania XXVII event at the Arena Ciudad in Mexico City, Mexico on August 3rd. His first match has not yet been made official as of this writing. Velasquez showed interest in professional wrestling last year when he visited the WWE’s Performance Center in Orlando.
Speaking to WWE.com, Velasquez had this to say about possibly one day becoming a wrestler:
“I’ve been a fan of the sport since I was a little kid, and now I get to participate in it.”
Velasquez joins former UFC stars like Ronda Rousey and Matt Riddle who have since left the UFC for professional wrestling. His last Octagon appearance took place in February, where he suffered a first-round TKO defeat to Francis Ngannou.
