Chael Sonnen Claims He Is The Highest Paid Fighter In UFC, Wants Vitor Belfort Next

Three-time UFC title challenger and trash talking king Chael Sonnen is seldom out of the headlines. Uncle Chael talks more smack than most of the WWE roster combined, but his latest rant shows why he is so theatrical. It’s a common fact that talk sells (wolf) tickets, but has Sonnen’s mouth made him the highest paid fighter?

Sonnen seems to think so, as he voiced to Gracie Mag, via MMAFighting:

“I get asked all the time whether I’ve been misunderstood by the fans. I have never asked the crowd for their approval and I will never start. I will never hope to walk into a room and be cheered. I’m OK with being booed. I will not pretend to be something that I’m not, I certainly won’t do it to win the audience over. I’ve been myself and with that said I’m the biggest draw in the sport. I’m the highest paid fighter the UFC has had. Dana White just disclosed the biggest check he’s ever written after a fight was to me. I’m not in this for the money and I’m not in it for the fame, but I do believe a person should just be themselves.”

Sonnen has a great way of talking himself in to huge fights, but is also a consummate company man. If ever there is a fight slot that needs filling, you can guarantee that Chael P is willing to scrap. Not only does Sonnen possess the gift of the gab, but he has balls bigger than his own head. He continued:

“”I think outside of Jon Jones, Vitor is the scariest guy in the UFC right now. Vitor’s and I’s paths will cross. There’s two guys that for my career to be complete, I have to fight. It’s Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort. That’s not a secret. The UFC will tell you the same thing. It has a number of times. Sooner or later that will happen, but in between now and then I’m not going to lie about what an incredible job Vitor has done, particularly in 2013.”

Sonnen will collide with ‘The Axe Murderer’ after they wrap up their Brazilian season of The Ultimate Fighter, and it appears that Sonnen wants a piece of ‘The Phenom’ before he is done with fighting. I’m not sure whether Sonnen stands a chance against the young elite these days, but there are certainly a lot of great fights left for him.
