Bruce Buffer Compares Ronda Rousey To The Female ‘Rock’
With a prominent role in yet another Hollywood film in last week’s ‘Entourage,’ undefeated UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is beginning to make almost as much of an impact on the silver screen as she does in Octagon.
She was also featured in this year’s ‘Furious 7, and last year’s ‘Expendables 3,’ and will also have the starring role in the upcoming ‘Athena Project.’
All of that Hollywood hype and buzz has lead to some lofty comparisons for ‘Rowdy.’ One of them came just this week from Octagon announcer Bruce Buffer on his ‘It’s Time’ podcast when he put Rousey on the high pedestal of blockbuster star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson:
“He’s constantly part of these big projects…they just make money. And that’s what’s happening with Ronda. Ronda comes out in The Expendables, which, worldwide, easily does over $100 million. She’s in Entourage.”
Buffer also noted that Rousey just released a best-selling book that is currently flying off the shelves, for which she’s embroiled in a promotional tour before her training camp for her next title defense in the main event of August 1’s UFC 190 from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The sheer amount of hustle she puts into building her brand draws a direct parallel with ‘the Rock’ in Buffer’s eyes:
“Now you’ve got her book…Ronda is selling a lot of books, and she’s busting her buns doing her promo tour. With what she does in fighting, in what she does in movies, to what she does with her book writing, and her training, there is a similarity, here. Ronda is like a female version of ‘The Rock’…It’s just exciting to see someone as a role model, herself, make this happen.”
With a decent amount of sometimes-negative publicity due to her repeatedly insult-fueled feuds with her opponents outside the cage and her penchant for snapping their limbs inside of it, it’s certainly debatable that Rousey is a role model for the young women of the world.
But what’s not debatable is that’s she’s rapidly finding massive success like no MMA fighter ever has, so her haters are just going to have to dig for more dirt. Has she earned the comparisons to a movie star like ‘The Rock’ just yet?
